Two Dogs Dining

Hello, Fuzzy Nation friends! I was out the other night, off to get some dinner and desert before hitting the parties, but at the restaurant I noticed a very unusual sight: there were OTHER dogs dining in the restaurant with me! I must say, i’m honored and proud to be canine and was pleasantly surprised at their poise. And hey, maybe this is only the beginning! Of a doggy dining trend! Dogs of the world, demand to be taken out to dinner! Just look how much fun it is.

And hey, don’t forget to submit to Dog of the Week! We need new entries, and new winners! (Although I may have to change the name to Dog of the Month…)

Gold and Gallantry

Hey, everyone! I hope you all had a great St. Patrick’s day, yesterday! There was much fun to be had–parades abounded during the surprisingly warm afternoon and parties simmered all night long! What a wonderful time.

The world over knows to associate emerald green with St. Patrick’s day, and we canine’s are no exception.  And, as always, I took the opportunity to find some

interesting fashions for the dog’s of the world.  In my searches I came across this interesting article: When Irish dogs are smiling! It’s a compilation of 12 incredible (and incredibly adorable!) dog costumes for the day at hand.  My favorite has to be the Rhinestone collar–it’s stylish and beautiful, just like me!  Which are your favorites? Or do you know of a BETTER one? Let me know in the comments! I love to see pictures of fellow fashionista pups.

In the midst of all the fun and celebration of the holiday, it’s easy to forget about the tragedies being faced in other parts of the world: the Japanese are suffering intensely in the wake of the earthquake that demolished their composure such a short time ago.  But even in such an awful situation, canine courage can provide us with something to smile about: this article tells the story of a loyal dog who stood by his injured companion and led a rescuers to him.

Talk about loyalty and courage! What an inspiring story! If you know of a particularly loyal, particularly inspiring, particularly adorable or courageous or intelligent dog, enter them into our Dog of the Week competition! Send an entry (composed of a few pictures and some information about the proposed pup) to brielle@fuzzynation.com.  Au revoir!

Canine Fashion!

Brrrr! It sure has been cold! This weather lately has been absolutely crazy! We go from beautiful weather, nice enough for picnics and long walks in the park and running around and fetching frisbees and sticks…i LOVE playing fetch…frisbees are the best…what was I saying? OH. Right. The weather. Well yeah, we’ll have a great day and then POOF! the next day it’s windy and frrreeeeeezing! How annoying!

The only upside to this weather is the opportunity to ACCESORIZE!  I love it when i get to wear a warm scarf to keep out the cooool breeze. And check out THIS guy, he’s got the right idea:

If only i could get one of those! Do you dogs and dog owners out there know any pups who are absolutely PROS at accessorizing? Got a story or a picture? We here at Fuzzy Nation would LOVE to hear about it! That’s what the comment section is for, STYLE GOSSIP!

And remember everyone, we’re always looking for submissions for Dog of the Week, so if you have a special pooch in your life, send him in and maybe you’ll win something! Send entries to brielle@fuzzynation.com, with the subject “Dog of the Week”  and a bio and some photos. Bon chance, everyone!

Rain, rain go away…

This pug’s current home base in good old NYC, and for those of you who don’t live around here and know, we had quite a storm earlier this week! Finally, today the sun showed at last, but not before I got my perfect paws muddied and wet in the street! Whoever invented rain should be PUT DOWN! Or at least have to sleep in it for a night! If there’s one thing I can agree with a cat on, it’s that getting wet is SERIOUSLY not fashionable.

Humans at least have those things…I think they call them “hands” so they can hold umbrellas. We poor canines are left in the cold, with nothing to cover our heads! That is, until now! Check THIS out!

I originally found it here.  It’s called a Dog-brella, and it’s absolutely the coolest thing! Finally, a use for those humans that always seem to be following us around (seriously, without us leading them, I doubt they’d ever get anywhere).  Besides cuddling of course. Humans are so warm!

With that said, I must be off. It’s time to muster up my cutest puppy-dog face and get myself a brand new Dog-brella (and maybe some cool accessories from Fuzzy Nation, if i can REALLY turn it on), so that’s all for now, mes amis! Au revoir, and stay dry, everyone!

Strange Phenomenon

Now, I’m a cultured canine, a four legged fashionista who prides herself on her travels and her friends everywhere in the world. And I’ve seen a lot of unusual things in my short life, but THIS tops them all.

I was out today, enjoying the weather with a walk through my favorite park when…well, I’ll just show you all the video!

Look at that! At first I was just as shocked as any, but once i figured out what was going on I laughed just as hard as any of those humans did! What a prank!

Have any of you pranked, or been pranked by your four legged friends? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments!

Gretta, the Eloquent Daschund

Hey everyone! This week, we’ve got a special treat! This incredible dog is potentially the most deserving of celebrity status we’ve ever featured: she wrote her own bio! So, everyone, here are a few words (actually not so few!) from Gretta, the eloquent daschund!

“My name is Greta, and I am an 11 month old miniature Dachshund who most would describe as a ‘Travel Hound’ and Good Will Ambassador. My mommy found me when I was just 2 weeks old, with my litter mates in Blanchard, Oklahoma. At 9 weeks i moved to Washington Dc to live with my new Mommy and Daddy.
One of my most favorite activities is travel.  Over the summer, we went to Venice Italy where I got to ride in a gondola and stay in a hotel overlooking the Grand Canal.  I was amazed at how many  little ‘weiners’  there are! I met lots of new playmates including a handsome red haired doxie.  Mommy bought me a few frocks and we danced to a lovely music in Piazza San Marco on a sultry July night.  I love Italian food and riding around the city in the Vaporetto water busses ! I never got charged for riding, and loved to sit up near the front where the breeze would blow my ears up in the air and make mommy laugh.
Then we went on the train to a little town called Chiari where Mommy had a harp master class.  I got to run around, off leash at the beautiful Villa Mazzotti and it was grand to trot and scamper around the vast grounds, or from room to room listening to more than 15 different harpist playing in their own 18th century practice rooms.  During the concerts, Mommy let me sit in her lap, and I learned not to bark when people clap! In the evenings I got to sit in a wicker bike basket, while mommy peddled around the moat along the outskirts of the village. Afterwards, the three of us lingered in the outdoor cafes until the wee hours of the morning.
In Heidleberg Germany we visited a beautiful castle and sat along the river in a quaint cafe where lots of people petted me and took my picture.Where ever we went people were so nice, they even brought me bowls of water and spoke to me in German!

In August,  Mommy and daddy also took me on a cool road trip to Nashville Tenn. and Jacksonville , Florida.  It was fun to hear country music, and I love the honkey tonk style. (I am going to hint for red cowboy boots Christmas).   Part of the fun of road trips, is road food (Fast food).  The kind of food that is normally ‘verboten’ around our household.   I love the double stacks at Wendys and getting to taste mommy’s vanilla Frostys — A great break from the baked chicken breasts I normally get.

When were not on the road, our days in Washington are more low key. I usually sit near mommy in my bed with my toys and blanket and nap or play with my toys while mommy plays her harp, and works on her book. (PS I am going to have my own blog soon).  During the afternoon, we walk along the waterfront and chase squirrels. Once a week we take special day trip to Rock Creek Park, or some other preserve to hike and have fun !  We also visit my God Parents house. They live in a grand old house a few blocks from the Washington Cathedral and have two huge Irish Setters (Ricky and Gibson).  I like the hustle and bustle of evenings there and enjoy being part of the pack! I
This Winter we are going on a South American cruise and I am really excited about it.  My goal is to see every country in the world, and meet as many wonderful people as I can.  Mommy says that I am the perfect Ice breaker, and Good Will Ambassador because everyone loves doxies, and no matter what age they are, or what country they come from, I can make them smile!”

What an incredible canine! I’ve never met such a well spoken, well traveled dog in my life! So congratulations, Gretta, you’ve definitely earned your Dog of the Week Status!

Do any of you pup owners out there have stories about where you and your best friend have been? Share them in the comments! And don’t forget, if you think you’re dog’s got what it takes, submit a description and some pictures with the subject line “Dog of the Week” to brielle@fuzzynation.com. Bonne chance et bon soir, everyone!

Super Dog!

Sometimes, everyone needs to feel like a superhero.  When life or love or anything’s got you down, a great outfit can go a long way in improving any pup’s mood.  This guy’s got the right idea!

He’s really got it all figured out, the perfect combination of fashion and fun. And oh so adorable! Where can i get ME one of those?

In all seriousness, sometimes all you need is a good friend to make you feel like a super hero–and that makes them something of a hero in themselves! Have any of you got stories about a time when a dog or a friend saved you?

Bella (The Double Agent?)

Heeey, everyone, (and tell your pup pals “Woof!” for me–they’ll know what it means)!  It sure has been a while, quite a busy winter! This pup has been SO busy freezing her little paws off that the dog of the week has nearly fallen to the wayside! But don’t worry friends, i haven’t forgot about you, and we’ve got another fantastic dog to introduce to you all. Everyone, say hello to Bella!
What a cute--hey!! She's asleep! Oh! As you can tell by the picture, she LOVES to nap. Don’t be alarmed but…she likes to nap so much that her owners think she might be…part..CAT! LE GASP!  She even sleeps on their heads from time to time! Could she possibly be a member of enemy forces, cleverly disguised as an adorable pug?

Impossible! Just look at that face.  Besides, someone with that kind of fashion sense (what a STYLISH collar!) could never be an imposter. Her owner says that she loves to play dress up and wear her sweater when she goes on walks, and i can agree with that for sure! Fashion makes my day, EVERY day! She’s friendly and loveable, even her snoring endears her to her owners! Now THAT’s what i call love.  This pup is one of a kind, and proclaimed by her owners as “truly one of the family,” the best thing a pup can be! So congrats, Bella! You’re our dog of the week.
Think your dog’s got what it takes? Send a few pictures and a description of what makes your pup special to brielle@fuzzynation.com, and it could be their picture up here next time! Good luck et bon chance! MUA!

“Adopt A Senior Dog” Month!

Hey, everyone!

As you may or may not know, November is adopt a senior dog month! I’m a sucker for a cute little puppy face as much as the next girl, but you just can’t go wrong with a wisened older pooch, for a lot of reasons.  You can check out this blog post for a list of reasons why a senior pet might just be right for you.

I, as well as everyone here at FuzzyNation, think that adopting a pet is one of the greatest thing a person can do.  Getting a dog from a breeder or a pet store is fine, but when you adopt a pet without a home–one who was abandoned or even never had a home–you’re changing that animal’s life.  It’s hard enough to find homes for younger abandoned dogs, but older ones have more trouble than any getting adopted.  If you’re thinking about adopting a dog soon, please consider adopting an older dog!
