Hey everyone! This week, we’ve got a special treat! This incredible dog is potentially the most deserving of celebrity status we’ve ever featured: she wrote her own bio! So, everyone, here are a few words (actually not so few!) from Gretta, the eloquent daschund!
“My name is Greta, and I am an 11 month old miniature Dachshund who most would describe as a ‘Travel Hound’ and Good Will Ambassador. My mommy found me when I was just 2 weeks old, with my litter mates in Blanchard, Oklahoma. At 9 weeks i moved to Washington Dc to live with my new Mommy and Daddy.
One of my most favorite activities is travel. Over the summer, we went to Venice Italy where I got to ride in a gondola and stay in a hotel overlooking the Grand Canal. I was amazed at how many little ‘weiners’ there are! I met lots of new playmates including a handsome red haired doxie. Mommy bought me a few frocks
and we danced to a lovely music in Piazza San Marco on a sultry July night. I love Italian food and riding around the city in the Vaporetto water busses ! I never got charged for riding, and loved to sit up near the front where the breeze would blow my ears up in the air and make mommy laugh.
Then we went on the train to a little town called Chiari where Mommy had a harp master class. I got to run around, off leash at the beautiful Villa Mazzotti and it was grand to trot and scamper around the vast grounds, or from room to room listening to more than 15 different harpist playing in their own 18th century practice rooms. During the concerts, Mommy let me sit in her lap, and I learned not to bark when people clap! In the evenings I got to sit in a wicker bike basket, while mommy peddled around the moat along the outskirts of the village. Afterwards, the three of us lingered in the outdoor cafes until the wee hours of the morning.
In Heidleberg Germany we visited a beautiful castle and sat along the river in a quaint cafe where lots of people petted me and took my picture.Where ever we went people were so nice, they even brought me bowls of water and spoke to me in German!
In August, Mommy and daddy also took me on a cool road trip to Nashville Tenn. and Jacksonville , Florida. It was fun to hear country music, and I love the honkey tonk style. (I am going to hint for red cowboy boots Christmas). Part of the fun of road trips, is road food (Fast food). The kind of food that is normally ‘verboten’ around our household. I love the double stacks at Wendys and getting to taste mommy’s vanilla Frostys — A great break from the baked chicken breasts I normally get.
When were not on the road, our days in Washington are more low key. I usually sit near mommy in my bed with my toys and blanket and nap or play with my toys while mommy plays her harp, and works on her book. (PS I am going to have my own blog soon). During the afternoon, we walk along the waterfront and chase squirrels. Once a week we take special day trip to Rock Creek Park, or some other preserve to hike and have fun ! We also visit my God Parents house. They live in a grand old house a few blocks from the Washington Cathedral and have two huge Irish Setters (Ricky and Gibson). I like the hustle and bustle of evenings there and enjoy being part of the pack! I
This Winter we are going on a South American cruise and I am really excited about it. My goal is to see every country in the world, and meet as many wonderful people as I can. Mommy says that I am the perfect Ice breaker, and Good Will Ambassador because everyone loves doxies, and no matter what age they are, or what country they come from, I can make them smile!”
What an incredible canine! I’ve never met such a well spoken, well traveled dog in my life! So congratulations, Gretta, you’ve definitely earned your Dog of the Week Status!
Do any of you pup owners out there have stories about where you and your best friend have been? Share them in the comments!
